10 Googonians on What Makes Their Community So Special

The Googong community is one to be admired. The community is like all good ones should be, that is, close-knit and loyal, yet easy-going and relaxed. We asked some of the community’s most prominent members to share what they love about Googong, and their responses give a real insight to the heart of the township.

Josh Ebert, President, Googong Hogs

“I love how the community has come together over the last few years and how much we support each other.  Everything from how well our events like Googfest and ANZAC Day are attended, to getting crowds down to support our home footy games, there is a real sense of belonging starting to build out here.”

Maria D’Andrea, Office Manager, Cannons Googong

“Definitely the people, they’re very friendly. It’s a community that looks out for one another and our customers really become our friends. We celebrate the highs and support them during challenging times.”

Samantha Remmers, Community Development Manager, Googong Township Pty Ltd

“Googong continues to see incredible growth and the township is already home to over 7000 people. We built this town with a firm focus on driving community connections and pride, and fostering community groups, sporting groups, and social networks. Nine years on our community is strong and inclusive, and residents have a true sense of belonging. In fact, our residents are our towns greatest advocates because they deeply value this connectivity.”

Dean Martin, President, Googong Residents’ Association

“As the Googong Residents’ Association Inc. President, I love the community spirit and how proud everyone is that they live here. As a father and husband, I love how we feel safe at home and I’m proud knowing my kids will grow up with a town full of different cultures.”

Alexander Efkarpidis, Manager, Liquor & Co.

“The easy-going people and the community-focused amenities like the dog parks, pool and dam, which are all family-friendly.”

Clair Nunn-Furzey, Group Admin, Googong Notice Board

“Googong is a community, not just a location. Many people here are willing to help others, some of who they may not even know personally.”

Shane McNamee, Managing Director, Ian McNamee & Partners

“The incredible community that flourishes here. There is something for everyone from world class parklands, playing fields and other outdoor amenities to quality schools and in the near future, an exciting new Town Centre.”

Candice Cox, President of the Googong Public School P&C and Chair of the Googong Community Garden

“From the developer, to the Googong Residents’ Association, the Googong Community Garden, the Googong Hogs, and even how fantastic our new Googong Public School is in its ambition to be a part of our community. I love the country, neighbourly feel we have here, and the local amenities in Googong.”

Geoff Young, President, Monaro Panthers

“Googong is convenient to our children’s sport of choice – soccer with the Monaro Panthers. Duncan Fields are within walking distance from most areas in Googong and can be played in during wet weather. The new fields – while further away for us – will add to the opportunities for the club to expand our miniroos program and offer well-constructed fields for more games and trainings.”

Kenrick Winchester, Mayor, Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council

“It’s the vibe.”

Thank you to the community members – from all walks of life – who were only too happy to share their greatest Googong loves, haunts and hot spots.
