Talking Avia Interiors with Dept. of Design

Looking forward to calling Avia at Googong home? Elaina Wood from Canberra’s Dept. of Design shares her design inspiration behind the development.

When it comes to designing interiors, where do you get your inspiration from? 

We find our inspiration everywhere. We look at trends locally and nationally, the latest materials, textures and colours. The architecture of the development and who will call it home also influence our efforts.

Avia at Googong is surrounded by beautiful bush, did this influence the design direction and selections?

The local surroundings are filled with soft palettes of creams and browns in the grasslands to the greys, whites and blacks of the gum trees, so it was easy draw on the natural surrounds to build palettes.

When it comes to Avia interior joinery and finishes, what did you consider?  

Practical finishes that are easy to look after, will always look fresh and clean. Classic detailing in the joinery, tiling and layouts ensure the spaces feel timeless.

What feelings do you want to evoke in buyers, as they look to move into their new homes at Avia? 

Here at Dept. of Design, our studio’s ethos is creating engaging spaces that look and feel amazing. We want all our clients to love their new spaces and for it feel calm, welcoming and theirs.

What’s one piece of decorating advice that you can offer soon-to-be Avia residents?

We encourage residents to take their time decorating their new spaces, filling it with pieces that have personal value and investing in quality pieces that will last a lifetime.
